Hope for Richmond Back and Neck Pain Due to Slouching and Poor Posture

April 21, 2020

Our parents and caregivers warned us about slouching. Our teachers did, too. Undoubtedly, our Richmond chiropractor does now! Did we or do we listen? Not most of us when we were young and a very few of us who are older and wiser today. Johnson Chiropractic understands and embraces slouchers and poor posture folks. Come to Johnson Chiropractic for Richmond back pain relief and neck pain relief from your slouching ways. Go away with tips on how to avoid posture-influenced pain and misery.

Slouching posture is just not good, not good for your spine, your health, your mood. Slouching is linked to things like pain, depression, and stress in addition to lower levels of general health, emotional well-being, and energy/fatigue. (1) Spinal angles need to be abided by which slouching do not do. The pelvic angle, the angle of pelvic tilt, body mass index and thoracic kyphosis angle had a significant role in whether a person had back pain or not. (2) Slouching while lifting is not good either as it strained disc fibers and raised intradiscal pressure. Therefore, Recent research recommended using a “free posture” that it was neither too kyphotic or lordotic curved. This used both active and passive spine elements in a more balanced way. (3) This concept of balance makes good sense to chiropractors and their chiropractic patients who are well aware what triggers their back pain bouts.

Back pain sufferers can explain to us chiropractors what they believe initiates their pain. Active movements (35%), static postures (28.1%), overdoing a task (5.3%), biomechanical issues, lack of exercise, work and medications top the list. Some Richmond back pain sufferers will concur that even nonbiomedical issues like psychological state/stress/anxiety, weather, sleep, diet and fatigue may trigger back pain. (4) Your Richmond chiropractor values how beneficial our Richmond back pain patients’ knowledge of their pain helps them recover. Knowledge like this plus a tool can create great results!

Could today’s fancy tech improve posture? Potentially, it may do so quite a bit!  As with anything in life, feedback is good; feedback influences change. In a recent study of feedback on posture using a wearable feedback device for only 15 minutes a day improved participants’ reports on physical functioning, emotions, energy/fatigue, confidence, overall stress in addition to neck and back posture compared to a group who didn’t use the device. (1) We – your Richmond chiropractor too – may have the best of intentions to “watch” our posture, but in the end, we just aren’t very good at it on our own! Johnson Chiropractic is here to help.
