October 22, 2019

Have you heard? Exercise is good. Johnson Chiropractic bets you have! Whether we like it or not, we all must exercise, move, and get our blood flowing! Richmond chiropractic patients are encouraged to do some type of exercise as part of their overall treatment plan for hip pain in addition to any related Richmond back pain with good reason.  It’s beneficial!

SPECIFIC EXERCISES FOR SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

Since Johnson Chiropractic treats a lot of musculoskeletal pain like back pain and neck pain and related arm and leg pain, new research was quite thought-provoking! It documented the suggestion and use of exercise for many specific conditions. A list of exercises for different diseases – musculoskeletal system diseases like low back pain, hip fracture, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis – explained the preventive and rehabilitative effects for each as well as the correct intensity and frequency. (1) Improved knee pain, function and quality of life stemmed from isolated hip and leg strengthening exercises. (2) Johnson Chiropractic welcomes patients with knee, back and hip pain to our chiropractic practice.

HIP PAIN…OR BACK PAIN?

Hip pain issues occur alone. Hip pain issues may occur along with low back issues like spinal stenosis. Hips xrays alone are not reliable. MRIs are more dependable for confirming diagnosis. Hip pain may mimic lumbar spinal stenosis. (3) What Johnson Chiropractic carefully checks for are non-spine related issues like avascular necrosis of the hip and hip fractures so that those may be co-managed as well. Johnson Chiropractic ensures our patients receive the care they need!

BACK PAIN RELATED HIP PAIN

Patients with non-specific mechanical low back pain walk differently because of different pelvic, hip and knee movements. They also are less able to extend their hip flexors and abductor muscles. (4) Researchers further described how low back pain influenced muscles of the lumbopelvic area. It’s important for back pain sufferers. Changes in hip muscles may stem from alterations in the cross-sectional area and volume of muscle. Why is this notable? It suggests that development of exercise programs to enhance hip muscle function in back pain patients is vital. (5) Surgeons are even finding value in having patients who choose back surgery perform “prehabilitation” exercises before back surgery as it helped improve range of motion, leg pain intensity, lumbar spine extensor muscle endurance and walking capacity…with no adverse side effects. (6) Johnson Chiropractic has treatment programs of exercise combined with evidence based spinal manipulation and nutrition to prevent back surgery when possible and56 pre-habilitate and rehabilitate Richmond back pain patients!
