Richmond Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Accept Those Tomato, Bean and Pepper Gifts from Gardeners!

The gifts of the summer garden abound! The garden abundance is copious! Every family circle seems to have at least one avid gardener with more tomatoes and green beans and peppers than he or she knows what to do with. Fortunately for us, generosity abounds in gardeners. Johnson Chiropractic encourages Richmond chiropractic patients to gratefully take those green beans, peppers and tomatoes and feast on them for an amazing anti-oxidant and nutritional boost to fight inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and more! Johnson Chiropractic embraces all of these benefits!

ANTI-OXIDANT, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTI-DISEASE

Johnson Chiropractic knows this is an amazing list of benefits. It is difficult to separate these actions from each other! They are all healthy benefits. Tomatoes are very full of nutrients, providing vitamin C, potassium and lycopene, an anti-oxidant that benefits cancer and heart disease prevention and anti-inflammatory activity. (1,2) To enhance absorption of lycopene, eat tomatoes with some flavorful, healthy fats like olives, avocados or similar oils. (3) Bell and chili peppers are filled with vitamins C, A, E, K1 as well as potassium, folic acid and fiber. [All of us all need a little more fiber in our diets! Speaking of fiber, green beans are amazing sources. Plus, they have many proteins, carotenoids, and anti-oxidants with only a small number of calories. Green beans have nutrients described as being anticarcinogenic, assisting the prevention and even the stopping the spread of some cancers in the body. (4, 5, 6)] Additionally, peppers assist in fighting inflammation, too, with their anti-oxidants. Raw and roasted peppers offer anti-oxidant benefits. Roasting may increase or decrease those benefits depending on the pepper type and stage of their growth. (7,8,9) Either way, your Richmond chiropractor encourages you to eat some peppers, tomatoes, and green beans! Your body will reward you!
