Chronic low back pain (CLBP) negatively impacts life for its sufferers. Richmond chronic low back pain
sufferers look forward to getting their lives back. Johnson Chiropractic
offers a chiropractic treatment plan with options that do exactly
that. The treatment plan often includes chiropractic
spinal manipulation like Cox® Technic together with gentle
exercise and nutrition. A few of the latest
insights about effective exercise interventions are presented here
for our Richmond back pain patients’ consideration as it is
for you to decide to choose what exercise works
for you!
WALKING AND MIND-BODY THERAPIES: Gentle Exercise Options
Walking works, so do mind-body therapies like yoga. An analysis
of 31 randomized control trials of 3193 participants, walking was
found to be as effective as control interventions for short term relief of
chronic low back pain and somewhat superior for intermediate
term pain relief and activity limitation improvement while yoga was more beneficial
for pain and activity limitation improvement
in the short term. Combining both walking and yoga
was proposed as a beneficial combination
for chronic low back pain patients. (1) In an analysis of 18
randomized controlled trials, yoga was said
to decrease pain in the short to intermediate term and to improve
functional disability from short to long term when compared with
non-exercise, usual care, and education. However it had equal
effects on pain and disability as other exercise modes or physical therapy.
(2) Most everyone can take a stroll. Some enjoy physical
therapy exercise. Most can perform yoga if they want.
Johnson Chiropractic knows not every exercise option may be
our Richmond back pain sufferer’s "cup of tea”! Options
are essential to participation...and Johnson Chiropractic has them!
MOTOR CONTROL EXERCISES
One set of researchers wrote that current
evidence does not propose that any single
form of exercise is better than any other for back
pain relief. That’s interesting! They did state that
exercise is modestly effective treatment for CLBP,
a substantial health and socioeconomic issue (cost,
disability, missed work). The most
common type of exercise for back pain relief was reported as motor control exercise which works
on the deep muscles and their coordination. Supposedly not
superior to other forms of exercise, motor control exercise should
be an option for chronic low back pain patients among
other kinds of exercise. The researchers suggested
that the choice should be made by the patient in collaboration with his/her
doctor/therapist. (3) Johnson Chiropractic talks with each Richmond back
pain sufferer to learn about what exercise will work and will be
done. That’s the key!
