Richmond Dizziness and Neck Pain Care at Johnson Chiropractic

May 25, 2021

Dizziness is a problem. Alone, dizziness can be frustrating, but it can also affect balance and contribute to falls. Dizziness with associated cervical spine disc degeneration can be a problem for folks of an older age. Johnson Chiropractic shares new research about chronic neck pain and its relationship to dizziness as well as the role Richmond chiropractic care plays in relief of neck pain and oftentimes related dizziness.

CERVICAL SPINE DISC DEGENERATION AND DIZZINESS

Patients with chronic neck pain due to cervical degenerative disease often have dizziness as well as neck pain. Many already-published studies, both clinical and basic science, detail the connection of cervical disc degeneration and dizziness. A new study indicated that cervicogenic general dizziness was the diagnosis for 89% of these patients. Improper neck postures over long time periods may be a factor when there is existing degenerative cervical disc disease. Men and women have different triggers for their dizziness. For example, farming, gardening, and weeding may cause general dizziness, particularly in older women. (1) Surgeons reporting on a new surgical approach to relieving chronic neck pain explained that current clinical and immunohistochemical studies strongly indicated that chronic neck pain and intractable dizziness came from degenerated cervical spine discs. The dizziness occurred with only cervical disc degeneration alone without cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy. (2) Such cervical spine degenerative disc disease also has been found to be accompanied by inflammation, particularly inflammatory cytokines that affect mechanoreceptors like the Ruffini corpuscles in degenerated discs resulting in dizziness. The good news: a majority of patients with cervical disc disease and associated dizziness report that conservative treatment is effective for them. (3) Johnson Chiropractic is the place for conservative chiropractic care of Richmond neck pain and degenerated cervical discs.

CHIROPRACTIC CONSERVATIVE CARE FOR DIZZINESS

An Australian study of chiropractic care of neck pain patients who also had dizziness found that chiropractic is frequently utilized by these patients to manage their neck pain. One in five people over age 70 years experienced neck pain. 57.3% of chiropractors said that the neck pain and related dizziness was quite responsive to their chiropractic conservative care. (4) Johnson Chiropractic uses the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management in treating cervical disc degeneration and its related Richmond neck pain.
